Jewish Venice | Venice Ghetto | Jews Venice
The Jewish Community of Venice is the institution responsible for religious services and cultural activities for Jewish Venice, the provinces of Venice, Treviso. Belluno and it is one of the twenty-one Italian Jewish communities united under the umbrella of the Union of Italian Jewish Communities (UCEI).
The administration of the Community is the responsibility of the Council assisted by the Board in all matters within its competence.
Its activity centres are located in the Venice Ghetto, visited annually by an average of 300,000 tourists. Here stands the monumental core of the five synagogues, the Jewish Museum and the Renato Maestro Library-Archive.
In addition to religious services, the Community provides classes for children and adults: from the study of sacred texts and the Talmud, to courses of modern Hebrew. There is a kindergarten, a Talmud Torah and under the auspices of the Community, which guarantees the Kosher certification , there is a guesthouse, a restaurant and a bakery in the Ghetto area.
Today, the Community has about 450 members and, despite its small number, is a lively reality, that often becomes the focal point for international Jewish events and cultural initiatives in Venice.
